An acupuncturist who lost his mother to cancer will start volunteering at Star Throwers in Wymondham to help others with the disease.

Dr Alex Qiao, who runs an acupuncturist business in Griffin Court in the town, said he wanted to offer his services for free to cancer sufferers, following the death of his mother in China six months ago.

Dr Qiao, 40, said: 'I know through my experience using acupuncture with my mother that it can make a huge difference to the quality of life of someone with cancer.'

Steven Ho, Star Throwers general manager, said acupuncture could help with symptoms of cancer including nausea, pain, depression and fatigue.

Mr Ho said: 'We offer a range of complementary therapies such as massage and reflexology, which can help people cope with the symptoms of cancer and its treatments. We look forward to having Alex join our team and working together to help more people affected by cancer.'

Dr Qiao has been an acupuncturist for 16 years and also practises traditional Chinese medicine.
