Overgrown bushes are forcing a blind woman and her guide dog on an unwelcome detour across a busy road, it is claimed.
Borough councillor Carl Annison has taken up Lisa Smith's case and rounded on Highways England for allowing them to become a hazard.
Mr Annison, who sits on the council's environment committee, said the bushes on the old Lowestoft Road in Gorleston cannot be negotiated by the woman's guide dog meaning she is not able to use the most direct and safest route across the pedestrian footbridge to Victoria Park, formery the old railway line.
He said: 'It is disgraceful. If I parked my car on that pavement so that people could not walk past it would be ticketed for obstruction. They have a duty of care to make sure people are safe.
'As it is the lady has to cross the road several times. To actually walk up there with your eyes closed - it is a terrible situation.'
