The A14 at Bury St Edmunds is expected to be closed for several hours today following a fatal road traffic collision this morning.Suffolk Police received a call shortly after 3am this morning to reports to a car driving the wrong way down the eastern bound carriageway.

The A14 at Bury St Edmunds was closed for several hours today following a fatal road traffic collision this morning.

Suffolk Police received a call shortly after 3am this morning to reports to a car driving the wrong way down the eastern bound carriageway.

A short while later, the car collided with a low loader lorry, near to the British Sugar factory, and became engulfed with fire.

The 24 year old male driver, who is believed to be from the Bury St Edmunds area, died at the scene. The lorry driver was uninjured, but was treated for shock.

A Suffolk Police spokeswoman said the A14 was reopened in both directions at about 1pm.
