Ordinary people choosing extraordinary heroes.

That is the message from the organisers of the Stars of Norfolk and Waveney Awards as nominees are treated to a night of celebration and glamour.

The night – on December 6 – will be an extravaganza for those who have been chosen from the hundreds of applicants who come along for the night.

This year's awards will be held at The Halls, St Andrew's Street, Norwich in the Blackfriars Hall.

Organiser Ros Park, who with Mick Parker runs the awards, is looking forward to making the night one to remember for everyone involved.

She said: 'The night is to recognise and celebrate all the people who are out there making a difference to people's lives and appreciate anyone who goes under the radar after they put so much effort and commitment into their communities or service.

'The atmosphere is always very exciting and lovely in a non-competitive way. Everybody is a winner, just by being there, and those who aren't able to come along for the night are winners for being nominated.

'Those who do come will enjoy it and will be completely bowled over by the whole the stage, the h all and the party. They most likely anticipate going into a room with a handshake and a goodbye but we do it big and we will blow them away.

'One year I had a someone say to me 'how do we choose the awards?' I explained that it was the judges and the sponsors. They have to go through all the applicants so it is ordinary people choosing extraordinary heroes.'

Every application is seen by the independent judging panel.

Miss Parker added: 'You can expect a night of glitter, glamour but tears also. Whether those are tears of happiness or real sadness when we hear the moving stories of people nominated. It is always a moving night.'

This is the fifth year of the Stars of Norfolk and Waveney Awards.
