Major work has begun on cleaning up a dirty duck pond in a Norfolk village following concerns over its condition.
Martham Parish Council and its contractor have begun work to revitalise the duck pond on village green, opposite the King’s Arms pub.
It comes after villagers reported issues including litter, algae and dead wildlife in the pond, as well as deteriorating conditions on the banks.

In a Facebook post, the parish council said: “Work on the pond started in earnest today with the slurry pump on side taking out water and slurry. There have been a few tanker loads taken today.
“There is more to be taken out, it has not been possible to get it all done in one day.
“The contractor will be back on site on Friday to continue and to do the jetting of the drainage pipes.

“It’s a messy job.”
The parish council added that it had done some litter picking in the “dry” end of the pond with plastic bags of various sizes, bottles and cans found.
It said a road sign, broken wheel trim, plastic pipe, old signage, planting baskets and flowers pots full of concrete were also discovered.
