New dentist could be opening on Upper Goat Lane in Norwich

Proposals have emerged for Smile Dental Care to take over a building on Upper Goat Lane, which used to be occupied by another dentist.

Smile Dental Care, which offers both NHS and private treatments, wants to revamp the outside of number 7 and install signs and glass doors for the entrance.

Planning papers for the scheme also reveal how the dental practice would like to create a reception area as well.

Agents on behalf of Smile Dental Care, said in the application: "The proposed external alterations seek to enhance the functionality and visual appearance of the dental practice, to improve its setting within the street scene and waymarking on Upper Goat Lane.

"The new signage seeks to signpost the practice as well as enhance the façade in a manner appropriate for a dental surgery.

"The signage will not be illuminated, but by reason of the proposed materials, colours and lettering will provide a clear and attractive set of signage that will preserve the character of the Conservation Area."

Smile Dental Care has a number of locations across the country, including one in Bowthorpe and further afield in King's Lynn.

If Norwich City Council approves the plans, Smile Dental Care will be one of several dental surgeries to open in the city this year.

Two miles away on Magdalen Street, Iconic Dent launched at the start of February by business partners and dentists Dr Lana Haj Yahya and Dr Lana Nashef.

The practice offers subscription plans, general dental treatment and examinations as well as cosmetic procedures.

On Heigham Road, RG Family Dental which is led by Dr Rebecca Gordon who qualified in London before returning to Norwich 15 years ago, opened on June 1.

While the clinic does not hold an NHS contract, it is offering reduced-cost care for young patients.

Norfolk has been described before as a 'dental desert' in which patients struggle to secure NHS dental treatments.
