Almost 20 scheduled procedures at a Norfolk hospital have been postponed following a mechanical issue.
The James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston has postponed 19 orthopaedic procedures scheduled for this weekend following a mechanical problem.
The fault has hindered the hospital’s ability to wash surgical equipment.
Jacky Copping, chief nurse at James Paget University Hospital, said: “Unfortunately, a machine failure has temporarily reduced our capacity to wash surgical equipment prior to sterilization.
“Engineers are working to rectify the fault, but as a precaution to prevent last-minute cancellations, we have postponed 19 orthopaedic procedures over the weekend.
“We recognise how frustrating this is for patients affected and will be re-scheduling them as a priority – and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“The majority of our theatre sessions are unaffected – and our emergency and trauma theatres continue to operate as normal.”
