An endangered Amur tiger named Timur has arrived at Banham Zoo.

The two-year-old male arrived from Cologne Zoo in Germany at the end of July and is currently settling into his new habitat.

Timur's arrival marks an exciting new chapter for Banham Zoo and an important milestone in the conservation of one of the world's most endangered species.

Ross Snipp, zoo director at Banham Zoo, said: "We're thrilled to welcome Timur.

"His arrival represents an important step in our commitment to the conservation of endangered species and the collaborative work carried out by zoos across Europe.

"He has travelled well and is settling into his new surroundings."

Since his arrival, he has been exploring his new habitat and becoming familiar with his surroundings, new keepers and daily routines.

Mr Snipp added: "Alongside the arrivals of Grant's zebra Zoom and tapir Inca, it's been an incredible summer for the zoo, and we're excited for our visitors to meet Timur as he continues to settle into his new home."

Banham Zoo also thanked supporters who contributed to a recent tiger fundraising campaign.

Visitors are advised that sightings of Timur may be limited while he continues to adjust.
