A man has been charged after two girls were allegedly raped on a Norfolk beach.

Madalin Ilinca, 34, a Romania national, of Stafford Road, Great Yarmouth, was stopped at the port of Dover while re-entering the UK on Sunday (June 7).

He was arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual offences following reports that two teenage girls had been raped on the town's South Beach at 12.37am on Saturday, May 16.

He has since been charged with one count of rape, one count of sexual assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault.

Ilinca is due to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 8.

Police had previously said that one of two suspects in the rape inquiry had fled Norfolk.

A second man, also in his 30s, was arrested in Northamptonshire on May 17 on suspicion of rape in connection with the same incident.

He remains on police bail until August 10 while investigations continue.

The force declined to specify the other suspect's nationality when asked.
