KFC, PureGym and Greggs to open at former Dereham Lidl

The store, on Kingston Road in Dereham, shut earlier this year following the chain's relocation to a new outlet on Yaxham Road.

The building had since been left vacant, but now plans lodged by Prime Retail Ltd have been approved.

This would see the venue sub-divided into four units, with one of them being occupied by KFC.

The fast food giant identified the site as "meeting their requirements in terms of population size, demographics, traffic flows, size of the building, surrounding uses and its location".

It will also be the first KFC in Dereham and will join other fast food chains in the town, including Subway and McDonald's.

One of the units will become a PureGym, which was confirmed by the business on social media.

Among the features include functional fitness equipment, weight machines, dedicated areas for fitness classes, changing facilities, and circulation spaces.

The plans follow another gym in the town - New Revolution (NR) Health and Fitness Club - moving to bigger premises in Dereham this summer.

The third business planned for the building is Greggs, marking the chain's second opening in Dereham.

In a retail statement, it was highlighted that the new outlet would be "in addition to, not in replacement of" the existing site on the Market Place.

It is unclear at this stage what will open in the fourth unit of the building.

The statement added that there were "no sequentially preferable sites" within Dereham that are both available and suitable for the proposed occupier requirements.

Other works to the site include reducing the total number of car parking spaces from 62 to 54 and providing a designated entrance door for each unit.

The plans have been approved by Breckland Council.
