A good Samaritan heroically dived into the icy depths of the River Wensum after a man took a fall.
The man fell into the water near the Jarrold Bridge, off Gilders Way, at about 8.40pm last night.
A member of the public saw someone struggling in the river and jumped in.
The hero then managed to safely pull the man to the bank before emergency services arrived.
An ambulance, an ambulance officer vehicle and two fire crews from Hethersett and Wroxham were all called to the river.
But police have praised the passer-by's quick thinking as "instrumental in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion".
The man who fell into the water was then taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further care.
