Are you ready to jive the night away to the original rock ‘n’ roll music of the 1950s?
Then head for Wreningham Village Hall in South Norfolk on Saturday, March 14, when Vince & The Moon Boppers from Italy, along with our own Whiskey Jean & The Chasers, will be raising the roof and turning the musical clock back.
And what better way to celebrate with our own golden oldie, Ronald “Rocky” Purdy, who is having a party to mark 50 years of spinning the wax, and would love you to join him.
Roland was the man who formed the great Starfighter Rock & Roll Club, which met up at the Norfolk Dumpling in Norwich before it closed and then moved to Wreningham from 2005 to 2017.
Over the years, generations of rockers have danced the nights away to the music and chat supplied by Roland, who still travels far and wide across this country and abroad, playing the music from the pioneers of rock.
Born at Thorpe St Andrew, he fell in love with music from the likes of 50s rockers Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent, got himself some blue suede shoes, and headed off to a local pub, where the landlord offered him the chance to be a DJ at a record hop.
A night which changed his life.
“It has been a wonderful 50 years which have taken me across this country and many other countries, making so many great friends,” he said.
Roland has brought so many great stars from around the world to Norfolk over the decades, and we have much to thank him for.
He co-hosted a show on Radio Norfolk with Stephen Bumfrey and now Rockin’ Roland broadcasts on Splinterwood Radio.
The first of two shows to celebrate 50 Years Behind the Decks kicks off at Wreningham Village Hall under the Starfighter banner on Saturday, March 14, at 8pm.
Tickets cost £10 on the door.
The second party is in May.
