But soon, moonshine could be coming to a city shopping centre.
O'Donnell Moonshine, a Manchester company that makes spirits inspired by the Prohibition era, has applied to Norwich City Council to sell its products from the Fraser store at Chantry Place.
The stall would be open between 9am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10.30am to 4.30pm on Sunday.
Tasters of the spirits, some of which are more than 70pc ABV, will be offered to customers from a stand at the department store.
Moonshine was the name given to illegally-distilled spirits, usually made under the cover of darkness to avoid detection.
It became prevalent in Appalachian communities in the south-eastern United States during the Prohibition era, as the region's rural character gave plenty of opportunity for illegal stills to operate undetected.
O'Donnell Moonshine makes a range of different products, some of which have had flavours added to them such as sticky toffee, wild berry, peach and cherry.
