Norwich artist paints mural of peace in war-torn Ukraine

Will Teather, who lectures at Norwich University of the Arts, travelled to western Ukraine as part of a diplomatic convoy of artists supported by the Lithuanian Culture Institute.

Working alongside Ukrainian volunteers, he completed the mural in the city of Sheptytskyi.

Mr Teather said: "What an extraordinary week I have had here in Ukraine.

"Hopefully our murals will spread some joy in a terrible situation."

The artwork features a flock of storks, a symbol of peace, family, and prosperity.

Mr Teather said: "Storks are both the national bird of Ukraine and Lithuania, deeply intertwined with folklore, tradition, and cultural beliefs."

The project was supported by the Lviv regional state administration, the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania, and the Lithuanian embassy in Ukraine.

Mr Teather said: "Cultural expeditions like this one are valued.

"It makes the people there feel less isolated and offers a welcome distraction."
