An inquest has been opened into the death of a retired dairy worker who died with depression. 

Leslie Apps, of Main Road in Ormesby, near Great Yarmouth, died at the James Paget Hospital on May 15. 

Speaking at the brief hearing, area coroner Yvonne Blake gave the medical cause of his death as “hypoxic brain injury due to an out of hospital cardiac arrest secondary to hanging, due to depression”.

The 75-year-old had also been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and prostate cancer.

In a statement provided to officers at Norfolk Coroner’s Court, his daughter confirmed that he had been born on January 19, 1949, in Watford, Hertfordshire. 

A full inquest to determine the official cause of death will take place at the Norwich-based court on August 29.
