A Norfolk-based dog charity has seen an “influx” of pooches as pet owners continue to struggle with rising costs. 

Safe Rescue for Dogs rescues and rehomes hundreds of dogs across the UK. 

It is now hosting a coffee morning where potential adopters can meet 32 of the four-legged friends who are currently looking for their forever homes.

Kelly Hare, founder of the charity, said: "There has been an influx of surrenders lately due to the cost of living crisis, the increase of vet fees and people's mental and physical health declining. 

"A lot of the dogs and puppies people got through lockdown are now a burden and are seen as a throwaway. 

"It's a shame but we help where we can and signpost elsewhere when we don't have spaces.”

The event is taking place at Loddon Jubilee Hall on Saturday from 10am to 2pm with a tombola, stalls, coffee and cake. 

It is free to attend but there will be opportunities to donate to the charity. 

Ms Hare added: "Like-minded dog lovers can get together, chat and eat cake together and the dogs in foster homes can socialise and meet more humans so it builds their trust in people."
