A driving instructor is in hospital with serious injuries following a head-on crash on the A47 between the car she was in and a van.

The instructor, who is in her 30s, was with a pupil on a driving lesson in a Vauxhall Corsa when a van allegedly overtook a lorry and crashed into her car on the A47 Acle Straight yesterday morning.

A male driver and two female passengers exited the silver Vauxhall Vivaro van and fled the scene with police now searching for them.

A Norfolk police spokesman added:  "The passenger of the Corsa, a woman aged in her 30s, suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to James Paget Hospital, where she remains.

"Occupants of the Vivaro van failed to stop at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to locate them."

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said that two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the crash, where they assessed five patients, taking one to James Paget University Hospital and the other to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
