A new neighbourhood pizzeria "catering to everyone’s palate" is set to open in NR2.

Lupa Pizza will open in Nelson Road early next month at the site of the former Woolf & Social restaurant.

Opened by chef Francis Woolf and Felix Rehberg in 2015, the pair decided to close the restaurant at the end of last year feeling like it was time to do something new.

Mr Woolf said: "Our focus is to be a friendly neighbourhood pizza restaurant.

"We have a cool menu design - it’s going to be a slightly different experience.

"Rather than picking from a list of pizzas, people will pick a base of margherita, marinara or white, and then choose the toppings they want by ticking down a list of ingredients.

Following an inspiring trip to New York, the trio have been working on getting the finishing touches right on their dough and have settled somewhere in the middle of an ultra-thin New York, Romano and Tonda style base.

The restaurant will also have ever-changing specials, sides and desserts on offer.

Mr Woolf added: "It’s going to be really simple - quite a clean, modern style.

"With Woolf & Social, we focused on being a local restaurant and won an amazing award for being the best local restaurant from the Good Food Guide.

"Lupa will be a completely different restaurant but I want it to have that same emphasis of being for the community and local.

"We have such a lovely relationship with all our neighbours - the Fat Cat has just opened the new Mad Cat bar opposite and we’re hoping to serve pizzas there.

"We’re looking forward to being a hub for the community around here."
