A Norwich City footballer has been charged with drink driving after a crash in a Norfolk village.

Shane Duffy, who plays as a centre-back, was arrested in Hethersett on Monday night after a collision involving two vehicles.

The 32-year-old Irish international is due to appear at Norwich Magistrates Court on July 2 after the crash in Queens Road.

His arrest comes only days before the Canaries start their play-off campaign against Leeds United on Sunday and presents manager David Wagner with a selection headache.

No one was injured in Monday's crash, after which Duffy was taken to Wymondham Police Station where he was charged with driving while unfit through drink.

Police said he was breath tested and provided a sample of 102 microgrammes of alcohol, almost three times the legal limit of 35.

Norwich City Football Club said it was "aware of an incident involving one of its first-team players".

Manager Wagner will be holding a regular press conference at 12.30pm on Friday, where he is likely to face questions from the media over whether Duffy will be available for selection against Leeds.

The defender has been a regular in the City side since signing from Fulham in the summer.

He previously made appearances for Everton, Celtic, Burnley, Blackburn and Brighton.

He has made 38 appearances this season, scoring once.

He was in the Norwich team for the final game of the regular season, away to Birmingham on Saturday.

He has 60 caps for the Republic of Ireland.
