Norwich police step in to deal with Taverham parking issues

Staff from Norvic Healthcare are accused of parking all day in and around Baldric Road, off Fakenham Road in Taverham - infuriating those living nearby.

The issue came to a head during a Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel (Snap) meeting on Tuesday, when it was the main topic of conversation between roughly 20 locals and police.

There are no parking restrictions but neighbours say the narrow road is congested and dangerous at times because of the parked vehicles.

Beat manager for Taverham, PC Brett Peyton, said: "Concerns have been raised by the local community in recent weeks about the number of vehicles parking in their streets from non-residents. 

"It's a matter which was discussed at length at the community Snap meeting.

"We are looking to increase patrols of the area and issue drivers with words of advice or Traffic Offence Reports when appropriate and necessary.

"We also want to assist partnership agencies, such as highways and the council, in finding a more permanent solution to the problem."

This newspaper has contacted Norvic Healthcare for comment on the matter.

Caroline Karimi-Ghovanlou, chairman of Taverham Parish Council, added: "It's been a constant issue here.

"It seems to be staff from Norvic parking in the road, or on the grass verges, before getting a lift to the offices in Fakenham Road.

"I know that both county councillors and police have tried talking to Norvic but it doesn't seem particularly interested in resolving the situation.

"It's disappointing they couldn't be more community-minded and have some consideration for their neighbours.

"I'd like to see the Norvic engage in some conversation with residents and police here, about where their staff can park safely while being more considerate to those living nearby."
