Parents fighting to save a closure-threatened nursery say they may pull their older children from the main school if the move goes ahead.

Tuckswood Nursery, based at Tuckswood Academy in Norwich, is currently under the threat of closure, with bosses from the academy trust that runs it saying shrinking demand has left it unviable.

Should the Broad Horizons Trust press ahead with the plan, it would see the nursery cease to exist from September, with parents left to find alternative places.

But families have launched a campaign against the closure, urging the trust to keep the site open.

Eastern Daily Press:

Mother-of-four Talia Wooltorton, one of the parents behind the campaign, has said she would consider withdrawing her children from the school if the closure goes ahead.

Her four-year-old daughter Dakota is currently in Reception at Tuckswood Academy, with her daughter Meadow, three, one of the nursery's current pupils. She had been hoping her youngest son, two-year-old Bernie, would start in September.

She said: "Since she started at the nursery, Meadow has flourished - she has become a completely different child.

"I like to have all my children in one place, so if they close the nursery in September I would have to preschool my other children too."

Sarah Cook, whose twins formerly attended the nursery, helped organise a protest at the school, while more than 200 people have signed a petition against the closure.

She said: "I feel there is a lot of support for the nursery, but it has not had the backing it needs."

The fate of the nursery is set to be sealed at the end of the month, with a public consultation due to close on Monday.

Don Evans, trust chief executive, said it would not be appropriate to comment further until a decision has been made.

He previously said: "We appreciate that the current uncertainty regarding the future of the nursery may be concerning and we will ensure we communicate the final decision as soon as possible."
