A funeral director living in a city cul-de-sac has been left fuming over repeated and "disrespectful" blocking of his driveway.

Daniel Rich-Gray, 40, needs 24-hour access in and out of his home in Arnold Miller Road, Lakenham, because of his job at Rich-Gray Funerals.

As part of his work, Daniel keeps a private ambulance on his driveway as his job can see him called out at all hours of the day.

But on more than one occasion, he has been unable to leave due to being hemmed in by other cars parked outside his drive.

"There's no respect from these people. I've tried to explain my situation using kindly worded letters but it's had no effect," he said.

"People keep saying they can park wherever they want because they have a permit but I need unrestricted access because of emergencies. It's shocking behaviour."

Despite Arnold Miller Road having no double yellow lines, Daniel has attempted to stop people from parking outside by putting cones down which were provided to him by Norfolk County Council and Norfolk Police.

Using CCTV, he discovered that people were removing the cones to park their cars, running them over or stealing the cones outright.

He added: "I've been in discussion with the council over having lines put down but they told me it would not be decided on until March next year, and even then it might not happen."

"That's all well and good but I need unrestricted access right now because people depend on me."

Norfolk County Council is backing Mr Rich-Gray in his plight.

A spokeswoman said: "We would always encourage people to park considerately and, in line with the highway code, not park in front of entrances to properties.

"We'd also point out that the highway code does explicitly prohibit stopping or parking in front of an entrance to a property and we would expect all road users to abide by this.

"In the case of Arnold Miller Road, we have received an application and funding for a traffic regulation order which could see double yellow lines installed.

"We are currently undertaking the necessary legal processes for this to be made."
