Mother's plea as Norwich man Mitch Thornton goes missing

Maxine Frost lives in Thurlby Road, Bowthorpe, with her husband and son Mitch Thornton.

Mrs Frost left their home for work early on Tuesday with her 24-year-old son in bed, but the last she heard from him was receiving a text message at 9.47am.

Mitch, who has one older sister, McKenna Smith, and two younger half-siblings, was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder on February 8.

Mrs Frost, 54, is pleading for his safe return.

She said: "I got up for work and saw he was asleep in his room - that was the last time I saw him.

"I had a phone call with him about 8.30am the same day and he seemed in good spirits and said he was alright.

"But around 9.47am I got a message from him saying a job interview he was due to attend had been rescheduled.

"I know he put in a lot of preparation for this and might have seen it as being all for nothing and feeling rejected by it.

"I messaged him straight back to see when it had been rescheduled, but it hasn't even gone through to his phone.

"I'm always cautious about overreacting, because of his mental health, but I called the UEA first because that's where he likes to go if he's ever feeling low - but no one had seen him."

Mitch studied law at the UEA and graduated with a master's degree. He does not drive or have access to a car.

Around 3pm on Tuesday, Mrs Frost contacted the police to report him as missing.

With Mitch still missing, his family are "numb" while they await updates on his whereabouts - spreading the message far and wide using social media.

"We're all devastated at the moment - numb honestly," Mrs Frost continued.

"He's very vulnerable at the moment so we just want him to come home as soon as possible and to return to us safely.

"We're so upset he's missing and if anyone has seen him or thinks they've seen him, please contact the police."

Norfolk Police has been contacted for comment.
