Four new homes have been given the go-ahead above a town centre shop.

West Norfolk council has agreed planning permission for empty space above a property on the High Street at King's Lynn to be converted into four flats.

Similar proposals were given the go-ahead for the upper floors of No 50, a Grade II listed shop dating back to the 19th century in September.

But a report to councillors says the original proposal included an external staircase and a fresh application was later submitted including a new internal staircase which will be housed in an extension.

It adds: "This new application represents an improvement to the original application as the internal element of the development retains more of the historic layout and features of the building.

"The construction of an extension to incorporate an internal staircase will result in a less than substantial amount of harm to the historic fabric as it will need to be affixed to the historic building."
