Twelve people were stranded on a boat after it got stuck in mud at a nature reserve.

Eight children and four adults were on board the cruiser when it became lodged in mud near the southwestern end of Breydon Water on Sunday.

RNLI Great Yarmouth and Gorleston launched the inland lifeboat 'John Rowntree' just after 3pm.

After arriving at the vessel the lack of water depth became an instant issue for the volunteer crew as they were unable to come alongside the boat without also coming aground.

A decision was made to wait for the tide to turn before making a new approach.

After around an hour the crew were able to come alongside the cruiser and they moved the 12 people on to the lifeboat.

The group were then taken down the River Waveney to the Fisherman's Inn where they were handed over to HM Coastguard crews.
