A stealth military aircraft will make its UK debut at a Norfolk airshow this summer.

The Lockheed Martin F-35 - "the UK's most formidable aircraft" - will make its first non-military airshow appearance at Old Buckenham on July 24.

Based at RAF Marham, the F-35 is at the cutting edge of aviation and military technology.

Operated by the RAF and Royal Navy, the machine is capable of operating from the UK's newest fleet of aircraft carriers thanks to its STOVL (Short Take Off and Vertical Landing) ability to hover like a helicopter and be airborne between 0 and 1,227 mph.

The F-35 will be at very few military airshows this year and Old Buckenham will make history as the first civilian airshow to showcase the aircraft.

Also debuting will be a newly restored P-51 Mustang 'Jersey Jerk', the Imperial War Museum's Spitfire Mark 1a and the only P-47 Thunderbolt flying outside the USA.

Matt Wilkins, organiser of the Old Buckenham Airshow said: "Yet more acts are to be announced and the Airshow is on track to beat its own records once again.

"Ticket sales are already way above last year's record sellout for the time of year and the F-35 will only make the inevitable sellout even earlier this year.

"We're immensely grateful to all at the RAF and RAF Marham's brilliant team."
