A care home has triumphed in a national Easter cake competition.

Buckingham Lodge Care Home's head chef, Eszter Kosztolanczi, secured the win in a contest hosted by Kingsley Healthcare, a British care home group.

The annual competition is open to all 39 of Kingsley Healthcare's homes across the United Kingdom.

Ms Kosztolanczi planned weeks in advance of the competition and created every part of her cake from scratch, even down to her detailed fondant representations of Easter bunnies, eggs and carrots.

Kingsley's Operations Directors, Sumi Thayan and Debbie McGovern, judged the contest, noting the universally high standard of entries.

Buckingham Lodge is celebrating its victory with the cake on display in its reception.

Hospitality manager at Buckingham Lodge, Anita Bell, said: “We are so proud of the cake we have put it on display in reception until it is eaten by residents over Easter.

"The photographs don’t do it justice. Residents’ families and other visitors have said, ‘Is it real? Wow, that’s amazing’.”

She added Ms Kosztolanczi has significantly enhanced the quality and variety of food since her arrival last year.
