Road closure in West End in Costessey is postponed again

Cadent Gas was initially planning to install new mains pipes in West End in Costessey from January 8 to March 15 but this was postponed to allow the weather to improve, according to council sources.

A second start date was set for February 19 until April 30, during which West End would be closed to traffic, but this was also pushed back.

Now the work is scheduled to begin on April 2 and finish on April 29, nearly three months later.

District councillor Gary Blundell has since described the process of firming up the dates as "like getting blood out of a stone".

He said: "We have been told West End will be closed but footpath access will be available at all times.

"We have suggested having traffic lights in place instead of a full closure yet Cadent has said the road has to be closed."

Cadent previously agreed to keep the road open with temporary traffic lights after concerns were raised about the work causing "gridlock" in the surrounding areas.
