High street discount giant Poundland is eyeing a former Wilko store for its newest Norfolk branch.

In a planning application to West Norfolk Council, the budget chain is seeking permission to use the now-defunct Wilko store in King's Lynn's Vancouver Quarter shopping centre after the latter's collapse last year.

Amid its collapse, Wilko administrators agreed to sell 71 of the failing retailer's shops to Poundland owner Pepco, however, the King's Lynn store was not on this list.

But Poundland has gone ahead with plans to take over the New Conduit Street premises and put up all new signage.

It comes nine months after Poundland vacated its nearby Broad Street store because company bosses and the building's landlord could not agree on terms.

The chain has only one other branch in the town, in Pierpoint Retail Park, just over a mile away.

The application will be put forward for consultation on April 1.
