A comedian has leapt to the defence of 'beautiful' Norwich and Norfolk on a popular BBC TV show.

Canadian star Katherine Ryan joined presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas on The One Show couch on Monday to chat about her upcoming work.

Talking about her new Channel Four travel show with Joe Wilkinson - Joe and Katherine’s Bargain Holidays - a segment was shown of the comedy duo paddleboarding in Norfolk.

The pair were spotted filming as they paddleboarded near the Red Lion pub at Bishop Bridge back in August 2022.

Talking about the clip Katherine said: "That was the beautiful Norfolk, and I'm not great at paddleboarding as you can see.

"It's voted the most romantic city in all of the UK, Norwich, and we went all around Norfolk..."

At that point, fellow guests Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice burst into laughter next to Ryan on the sofa.

A confused Katherine asked Anton: "Are you laughing because it's a town and not a city?"

Antoine replied: "No, it's because you're absolutely right but nobody has ever said it out loud before."

An indignant Katherine said: "Excuse me! We went to lavender fields, we went paddleboarding..."

But as Antoine was still laughing Katherine asked: "What? do you have history there? Did you fall off the paddle board also?

"We did champing, which is where you glamp in a church.

"I can't say enough about Norfolk!"

The aim of the show is for thrifty Joe to persuade luxury-loving Katherine that holidays don't always have to cost a fortune.

Joe and Katherine’s Bargain Holidays will be available to watch on Channel Four later this year, with an official release date yet to be announced.

Ryan is set to return to Norwich next year for a show at the Theatre Royal on March 13, with tickets going on sale later this month.
