A car came off the road and crashed into the grounds of a junior school this morning.

Police were called to Gilpins Ride in Dereham at 8.04am following reports that a vehicle had crashed through a fence around the Dereham Church Of England Junior Academy field.

The car travelled across part of the field before hitting another fence and coming to a stop in front of some trees.

The driver suffered minor injuries and the scene was cleared at around 10am.

Mrs Kelly Scott, the Academy's headteacher, said: "We were made aware by a member of staff that a car had gone through the fence at the very far end of the school field early this morning before children were in school.

"Police attended and temporary fencing is being installed this afternoon while repair work to the fencing is undertaken.

"It is understood that the driver only suffered minor injuries and the car has since been recovered.

"Staff have supervised the children's playtimes and the children's entry to school and the children have been spoken to about this."
