Six restaurants in Norwich have been included in a new round-up by the Good Food Guide. 

The publication - which has been around since 1951 - is one of the country's top food and drink reviewers and frequently ranks the best places to eat under a range of different categories. 

It has put together a list of the six best restaurants in the city, saying: "From top-notch Italian food to local farm-to-table spots, the city's dining options reflect its unique blend of historical charm and contemporary innovation."

1. Benedicts

The guide has said Benedicts "warmth" is exceptional and highlighted the "bright and contemporary" cooking. 

It gave special mention to the warm brioche and pan-fried croûton topped with crabmeat. 

Overall, the guide recommends the city centre restaurant for its uniqueness, wine selection and "colour". 

2. Benoli

According to the Good Food Guide, Benoli is the city's best Italian restaurant. 

It was noted for its private dining room, separate bar and counter seating, with it being an ideal place to take friends and family. 

Benoli's dessert menu was mentioned, in particular the cardamom crema, raspberry sorbet and dulce de leche tiramisu.

3. Brix & Bones

This open-fire grill kitchen and bar in London Street was included on the list for its "roaring" flavours and sharing dishes. 

The guide said: "There's abundant love for Brix & Bone's bone-marrow fudge doughnuts, while goat cheese ice cream with beetroot molasses will please the less sweet of tooth."

Its overall rating is "good", with a uniqueness rating of "very good".

4. Farmyard

Located in St Benedicts Street, Farmyard was called a "happy, relaxed and light-filled bistro" which serves "imaginative, beautifully cooked food".

Specialising in fish-based dishes among others, the guide recommended the beurre blanc with lemon crumb or its coley, which is otherwise known as pollock.

The restaurant is known for its use of locally sourced products, such as Baron Bigod cheese and Tofurei tofu.  

5. Roger Hickman's

With wines from Bordeaux, California and New Zealand, Roger Hickman's "hits the mark winter or summer, lunch or dinner". 

The restaurant, in Upper St Giles Street, has a range of menu options that include gazpacho, venison and Cromer crab. 

The strength of recommendation is "very good" but diners should come prepared to pay by credit card.

6. Shiki

The guide said of this Tombland sushi spot: "Shiki may be in the heart of historic Norwich, but with its simple un-cushioned benches, bare tables, bamboo blinds and laid-back vibe it could be an izakaya in downtown Kanazawa."

Shiki does not offer many desserts, instead offering palate cleansers and Japanese whiskey. 

Overall, the rating is "good".
