A woman fed up of potholes in a Mid Norfolk village is calling for a "total rethink" when it comes to repairing roads where she lives.
Cheryl Herman believes a mass overhaul for Mattishall Lane in Mattishall, near Dereham, should come as it poses a hazard and says general repairs will “no longer suffice.”
The road was closed by Norfolk County Council's highways department several weeks ago after excessive rainfall battered the region.
The lane along with Mill Road are two of the main roads Mrs Herman uses to travel into the village.
Mill Road is being closed on March 11 to undertake repair work and Norfolk County Council says work will be carried out on Mattishall Lane "later this year".
Mrs Herman said: “A systematic underfunding to maintain the local roads has led to an increase in potholes which have been exacerbated by the unprecedented amounts of rainfall.
“The general repairs of patching up will no longer suffice as you can probably see. A total rethink is needed.
“Millions of pounds are now being spent on a link road to the Norwich Northern Distributor Road (NDR) in the area, whilst these roads are just being neglected.
“I know people in the highways department are doing all they can to repair the roads, it would seem to me that this is down to a lack of funding.”
A spokesman for Norfolk County Council said: “Mattishall Lane is currently closed due to flooding, work is scheduled for later this year, which, along with work with local landowners, should prevent any future flooding issues caused by heavy rainfall.
"Mattishall Lane will be closed when this work is carried out, due to the nature of the works and the small size of the road
"On Mill Road, repairs, including patching of the carriageway and work on drainage, are due to start March 11 – Mill Road is due to be part of this summer’s surface dressing programme.
"Mattishall Road and Stone Road are both due to be part of next summer's (2025) Surface Dressing Programme."
