A Norwich man found drunk at home has denied driving his van while almost four times over the drink-drive limit.

Police were called to reports that a man had driven off after visiting the home of his ex-partner in Drayton Road while intoxicated on January 29, Norwich Magistrates’ Court heard.

George Bodea, 31, was arrested at his home address with his Peugeot van found to be parked outside, the court was told.

He subsequently failed a breath test at the police investigation centre with a reading of 134 micrograms - the legal limit is 35.

Bodea, of Riverside Road, spoke through a Romanian interpreter as he pleaded not guilty to a charge of being in charge of a vehicle whilst under the influence of drink or drugs.

Paul Brown, prosecuting, said he had told officers he had stopped to buy alcohol at a shop during the journey home but could not tell police the name of the shop.

Magistrates set a date for him to stand trial on November 13. He was given bail on the condition that he not contact the prosecution witnesses.
