An award-winning chippy in the heart of the Norwich Lanes has been given a facelift ahead of its 100th anniversary.

Couple Duane Dibartolomeo and Christian Motta have run Grosvenor Fish Bar in Lower Goat Lane for the last 12 years.

However, Mr Motta's association with the city institution goes back to his teenage years as he managed it when he was 15 and his dad Mauro owned it.

Since taking over the business in 2012, the pair have created a niche with their menu of traditional fare alongside specials such as cod tacos and their 'High Sea' version of afternoon tea.

The interior has now been given a refresh, which includes new tables and a repaint of the main room in the bunker in a vibrant yellow.

There is also quirky new artwork, including a "let them eat chips" Marie Antoinette custom piece on the shop window.

Mr Motta said: "After 12 years it was looking a bit tired, with the tables starting to go and chairs getting a bit wobbly.

"It needed an uplift and now it feels much better and brighter."

Still to come is more colourful artwork, such as a giant Andy Warhol-style pop art piece with images of Grosvenor Fish Bar chip bags, and a fun house mirror.

The facelift comes ahead of the 100th anniversary of the shop in September this year and they will offer bags of chips for £1 for a week.

Mr Dibartolomeo said: "We also want to look at menus from 100 years ago and see what we can serve but in a more modern way."

Asked why Grosvenor has stood the test of time, Mr Motta added: "It has been here so long that it is an institution and people also love the tradition of fish and chips."
