A vacant bed and breakfast which dates back to the 1890s has been put up for sale.

Central Hotel in Riverside Road, near the rail station, is valued at £650,000 by estate agent Arnolds Keys.

The hotel has 17 bedrooms - most of which are ensuite - as well as a reception room, dining room, kitchen and a staff breakout area.

The hotel was originally built as a home in the 1890s and is in a conservation area designed to protect St Matthews Church, which is nearby.

The site has a pending planning application to transform the former B&B into four apartments and a single dwelling.

Plans submitted in November 2022 stated: "In the building's current use much of the historic character has been lost or hidden through successive unsympathetic interventions and subdivisions to create hotel rooms and associated bathrooms.

"The proposed design shows that through careful re-division it is possible to reinstate some of the historic character through revealing the well-proportioned rooms and windows."
