Tributes to Liam Kingswell following inquest into his death

Liam Kingswell of Beckmeadow Way, Mundesley, was found at home by his wife Katherine on the morning of September 17, 2023. 

He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital by air ambulance but died two days later on September 19. 

An inquest into his death was held at Norfolk Coroner’s Court, based at County Hall in Norwich.

The court heard that he launched his own marketing agency after being made redundant at the start of the pandemic in 2020.

He had also recently become a business partner in a second business, with the aim of reducing his hours to spend more time with his family.  

The weekend before his death, the couple celebrated a friend’s wedding and were making plans for a Christmas holiday to Lapland and trips away to visit friends. 

'PROUD FAMILY MAN'

His wife, Katherine, paid tribute to her husband via a family statement to the court. 

She said: “Liam was in good physical health before this incident. He regularly took our daughter to taekwondo in the village, something they both enjoyed, and he excelled at. 

“He enjoyed walking on the beach and sea-swimming with our dog. 

“He had some mental health troubles, for which he took [medication]. 

“He was well-liked and had an active social life, being a proud member of the local Round Table group and organised some very popular social events for them. 

“Additionally, at their meetings, he would openly discuss mental health with them, which is something as a group they take very seriously. 

“Liam was a very proud family man, who unfortunately put a lot of pressure on himself to achieve perfection in anything he undertook.  

“He put pressure on himself in all aspects of his work and home life. 

“He always strived to do the best for our children and would work tirelessly to ensure it happened.”

A HEARTFELT FUNDRAISER

Since his death, more than £13,500 has been raised in the company director’s memory via Go Fund Me. 

A long-serving member of Sheringham & Cromer Round Table, the fundraiser saw several Round Tables from around the country donate. 

Friend Will Moy, who organised the fundraiser, paid tribute to Mr Kingswell via the website. 

He wrote: “Sheringham & Cromer Round Table are devastated to announce that we have lost Liam Kingswell, one of our much-loved members who tragically took his own life during September 2023. 

“Having moved to Norfolk from Coventry, Liam had been a much-loved member for more than two years. His friendship and laughter were infectious, and at just 33 years of age, had plenty of years ahead of him in Round Table. 

“The loss of Liam is something that has hit all of us hard, but it is Liam's family who will suffer the most.  

“Liam is survived by his wife Katherine, and two young children. 

“We hope to provide as much emotional support to the family as possible, but we can also try to alleviate some of the financial hardship that this will cause them through fundraising as much as possible to be donated to Katherine and the family. 

“All funds raised will go towards them - and will help cover funeral costs and other support they need. For anyone who is able to donate, you have our most sincere and heartfelt thanks for supporting our fellow Round Tabler, and friend, Liam.” 

Area coroner Yvonne Blake confirmed that the cause of death was hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy because of a cardiac arrest due to asphyxiation of the neck. 

She concluded that Mr Kingswell died by suicide. 

Following his death, his wishes were to donate his kidneys, heart, liver, and pancreas.
