A bid to build new homes in a Norfolk village is set to be turned down because local services are said to be at "breaking point".

Plans have been lodged by Orchard Homes to build 19 new houses in East Tuddenham, next to the recreation ground off Mattishall Road.

The parish council has argued the new homes are an "overdevelopment" and will put excessive strain on the village's GP surgery and schools, which they say are already at capacity.

In a statement, it added: "There has been little to no community engagement with only one open day to present what the applicant has decided to do. The proposal does not meet local needs.

"Having spoken to the GP surgery, it has been conveyed that they are currently at breaking point with the current patient list. They said they could manage the additional workload, but felt that this would also cause additional pressure for the staff and push current resources to the limit."

Concerns were also raised by Mattishall Primary School that the development would result in a "serious safety issue" due to an increase in traffic through the village.

These criticisms have led officers to recommend the application be refused at a Breckland Council planning meeting on March 12.
