New jobs look set to be created as the former owners of a prominent waterside pub prepare to return to the venue.

The management team behind pub and restaurant group, Moss & Co, will return to The Commodore, in Oulton Broad, Lowestoft in April.

It comes just over two years after the independent family-owned hospitality group - which has been running gastro pubs across Suffolk and Norfolk for more than a decade - had left the waterside pub on Commodore Road.

Back in March 2022, after more than a decade at the helm of the pub situated on the edge of Oulton Broad, a renewal of the lease was not granted by landlords the Stonegate Pub Partners.

It led to the pub that offers panoramic views being temporarily closed, before it reopened with new owners the following month after a £200,000 investment from the Stonegate Group.

But after recent talks with Stonegate, Moss & Co has now signed a new five year lease, and they will return to the venue once more in April.

Teasing the return this week in social media posts - which quickly became one of the group's "most liked and shared posts ever" - it said: "Anyone want to see these good times back at The Commodore?

"We are so pleased to announce that from Friday, April 12 we are coming home!

"We can’t begin to tell you how excited we are to see you all again."

Adam Vass, operations manager, for Moss and Co Trading Ltd, said: "We are going back into the Commodore from April 12.

"This will be the ninth venue in the portfolio."

Moss and Co also runs The Jolly Sailors in Pakefield, The Village Maid in Lound, The Bell Inn in Carlton Colville, The Angel Inn in Wangford, The Harbour Inn and Mossy's in Lowestoft, The Queens Head in Thurlton, The White Horse in Badingham and Moss & Co at Broadlands in Oulton Broad.

'Bring back the good days'

Looking ahead to the return, Mr Vass said that the plans and aspirations for The Commodore this time around are: "To bring back the good days and make it the number one venue to go to in Suffolk.

"We want to make people feel welcome, get to know the staff, enjoy the drink and food on offer and obviously soak in the sun and amazing views."

Confirming new jobs will be created, Mr Vass added: "Yes, we will look to employ around 40 people in total - an increase of 60 per cent at the moment."

In terms of investment in the pub, he added: "To begin with it will have a fresh lick of paint to brighten it up and then as we go on we will begin to replace furniture and goods behind the scenes.

"We will be kicking off the opening weekend with live music starting with Terry Adams - famous at The Commodore."
