An unexploded bomb has closed part of a north Norfolk beach.

HM Coastguard was made aware of the suspected bomb below the high tide line on Sheringham beach at 4.20pm on Sunday.

Police were also called and parts of the promenade have been cordoned off.

Coastguard teams continued to monitor the scene as they waited for the tide to go down so they could investigate the device.

Authorities believe it to be a UXB (unexploded ordnance bomb), a device that has been primed, fused, armed or prepared for use in an armed conflict, but failed to detonate.

It comes after the beach in Hunstanton was closed on Friday while an army bomb disposal team investigated a suspected device.

Crews examined the metal cylinder and conducted several tests before confirming it was harmless.

After the tide went out police and coastguard teams believed the suspicious item to have been swept out by the tide this morning.
