Plans to bring parkrun to Dereham for the first time have received a head start.

Breckland Council has announced it will hand over £3,600 in funding allocation in support of the weekly running event being established in the town.

Breckland, working with Dereham Town Council and volunteers, have created a route around the town, which will include part of Shillings Lane, which has recently been refurbished.

The idea to bring the weekly 5km run to Dereham, which with a population of more than 20,000 is the largest centre in Norfolk without at least one of the popular events, has been led by Breckland councillor for Dereham Neatherd ward, Alison Webb, who said: "As the representatives for the area, Linda Monument, William Richmond, and I, are thrilled that this project is getting off the ground.

“The funding provided underscores our dedication to facilitating accessible and inclusive recreational opportunities for all residents.”

Mrs Webb has urged Dereham to keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks on how they can get involved.
