Nine new industrial units are set to be built on the edge of a Norfolk town on land originally earmarked for a DIY superstore.

PKS Construction has been given planning permission to develop the site on Sovereign Way, at Downham Market.

A planning statement said permission was previously granted for a DIY superstore on the same site, which has now lapsed.

It adds: "The proposal seeks to create high-quality office and workshop space for the applicant, PKS Construction, to cater for their expanding construction business.

"The remainder of the site comprises of smaller market units to be sold or rented out by the applicant.

"The creation of such units would benefit the local area by allowing small businesses or sole traders in Downham Market to expand their business, while remaining local to the town."

Downham Market Town Council supported the scheme, which it said would bring "much-needed employment opportunities" to the town.
