A council van has been rescued from flood water after becoming stuck this morning.

A video, shared by CT Barnes Autos, shows the highway maintenance vehicle lodged in water deeper than its wheel height in Podmore Lane in Scarning.

CT Barnes Autos, which is based in Podmore Lane, attended the scene with recovery equipment and pulled the Norfolk County Council van and its driver from the water.

The footage comes after a night of heavy rainfall which led to several flood alerts being issued across Norfolk.

There is also a more severe flood warning in place between South Creake and Burnham Thorpe.

A spokesman for Norfolk County Council said: “We’re aware of the difficulties a County Council vehicle ran into a Scarning and will be investigating the circumstances.

"It is however a timely reminder that floodwater can be a threat to anyone on the road: if you’re travelling by car and come across a flooded road, always consider your own safety and potential damage to your vehicle and try to find a safe, alternative route.”
