A pet shop has reopened as a dog grooming business in a Norfolk Broads village after a full refurbishment.

Alex Amber, who runs Martham Dog Groomers in The Green, has celebrated the launch of her new-look business.

She said she decided to switch the direction of the business to better cater to public demand.

Ms Amber explained: "In the current climate it was just near-on impossible to keep the shop going.

"Although I started grooming around three years ago, I did stop for a while, but the shop wasn't making money on its own so I decided to change it into a full groomer."

She said that, despite taking a break from grooming, many of her former clients have returned alongside some new faces.

She believes her business stands out because she works on a one-to-one basis with her canine clients to keep them calm and minimise their anxiety.

Ms Amber, who used to be a yoga teacher, added that to keep the costs down, she and her partner completed the refurb themselves.

"My boyfriend has done all of the woodwork and I've done the painting - it's worked really well.

"We've also had so much support from the rest of the village - Kerry the florist next door has been helping out and the people from the cafe close by have been bringing us lunch," she said.

"I couldn't have wanted for more support from everyone."
