A north Norfolk amateur theatre group is preparing to take to the stage to perform its 30th pantomime.

The Aldborough Players’ latest panto – Toad! – is based on the classic tale of The Wind in the Willows.

Directed by Antonia Gray and Duncan Green, the story follows the hapless adventures of Toad, his loss of Toad Hall to the scheming weasels, and his eventual rescue by his friends Ratty, Mole and Badger.

The pantomime will be at Aldborough Community Centre from February 7 to 10.

Known for their slightly off-beat takes on traditional pantomime tales, the Aldborough Players have taken their audiences on many adventures over the last three decades - from outer space to the Wild West and Never Never Land, and from Ancient Egypt to treasure islands and a giant’s kingdom.

Their first pantomime, Sally in Pantoland, in 1993, was the brainchild of Malcom Ward, who established the group.

Two members of the original Sally in Pantoland production are still active cast members, Jane Maguire from Aldborough and Richard Leeds - a former mayor of Cromer.

The Aldborough Players credit their success to their all-inclusive policy. The group's mantra is if you want to be involved, then get involved - it’s as easy as that.

Ms Maguire, a member of the group, said: “We never guessed the Aldborough Players would be so vibrant after all these years.

“We’ve got a deep well of talent to draw from and we cater for everyone – cast members range from 10 year olds through all age groups.

"Us older members have a wealth of experience to pass on, but in turn benefit from the input of younger players.”
