A charity has been left disappointed after Norwich City stepped in to prevent tickets to the upcoming derby match against Ipswich Town being offered in a raffle.

The competition was to win one of two pairs of hospitality tickets, donated by Norwich-based production company PSE Live, to the East Anglian derby at Carrow Road on April 6 - worth £300 per pair.

Raffle tickets were £20 each and all proceeds were to go to Norfolk Accident Rescue Service (Nars), which has been providing additional support to the ambulance service since 1970.

However, the Canaries asked for the competition to be cancelled because the raffle breached the terms and conditions of the club's hospitality boxes.

Nick Clarke, director of PSE Live, said: "Unfortunately, we received an email from Norwich City on February 2 prohibiting us from donating our football box tickets to Nars for fundraising purposes.

"We weren't aware that offering tickets in our private box to a charity, to raise much needed funds, would breach the terms and conditions of our box agreement with the club."

A City spokesman explained: "The terms and conditions for box holders provide that boxes are for personal use and that tickets must not be transferred to third parties.

"While the club recognises the charitable intentions, given the high-risk nature of the game and the fact that a five-year purchase history is required to buy general admission tickets for the game, the decision was taken to not approve the ticket giveaway."

Chris Neil, chairman at Dereham-based Nars, was disappointed at the outcome, saying: "Sadly we have had to cancel our charity raffle for the Norwich v Ipswich hospitality tickets, after being contacted by the generous donor of the tickets, PSE Live.

"The four tickets were going to be strictly home fans only and in PSE Live's corporate box, however, Norwich City has told them they're breaking the terms and conditions and will not allow this raffle to happen - where every penny raised was much needed funds for Nars.

"With many tickets sold after we launched last week we'll now arrange refunds. Sorry to all that supported this raffle and Nars."

The Yellows' last game against Ipswich, on December 16, ended in a 2-2 draw, with Jonathan Rowe scoring a brace to extend the Canaries' unbeaten derby run to almost 15 years.
