A man accused of coercive control of his partner is to be held in prison until his trial after prosecutors successfully overturned a decision to bail him.

Judge Katharine Moore said Jordan Shindler, 23, should remain on remand over allegations that he controlled the life of his 20-year-old girlfriend who he is accused of strangling.

Magistrates had granted Shindler, of Sandown Road in Great Yarmouth, conditional bail after he pleaded not guilty to intentional strangulation and controlling and coercive behaviour including dictating who she can see, monitoring her phone and rationing her food.

They imposed bail with conditions not to contact the woman, to report to police daily, and not to enter Suffolk where she now lives.

Danielle O’Donovan, defending, said he would not breach the conditions as being in custody had “terrified him”.

But Judge Moore sitting at Norwich Crown Court ruled he should remain in prison.
