A Norfolk charity, the Sue Lambert Trust, has launched a 24-hour sponsored silence challenge aimed at raising funds and creating much-needed awareness about the devastating effects of sexual violence and abuse.

The trust said these are crimes that often lead victims to suffer in silence for many years.

The Trust's CEO, Clive Evans said: "Sexual abuse and sexual violence devastates lives and is a crime that silences so many.

"It is never okay, and we want survivors to know that no matter how long they have been suffering in silence, whether the abuse or attack happened a year ago, in childhood or decades has passed, when you feel ready to talk, we are ready to hear and believe you."

Sue Lambert Trust has been working to support victims of sexual abuse for the past 40 years.

Offering a wide range of services including one-on-one counselling sessions, support groups, and additional assistance with issues like housing and finances, the charity is striving to provide essential help to those in need.

The sponsored silence event, which forms part of Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week from February 5 to 11, will aim to raise £7,500 for up to 150 hours of therapy.

In 2022/2023, the trust helped 577 individuals from Norfolk.

Upon completion of a year of support with the Trust, 83 per cent reported significant improvement in their mental health.

For those wishing to take part in the 'Go Silent for Sue Lambert Trust' fundraising event, they can sign up and choose any day between February 5-11 to observe silence for 24 hours.
