Two men have been arrested after a house fire in a Norfolk town in the early hours of this morning.

Police and firefighters were called to the blaze at a property in Old Hunstanton at 12.10am.

Fire crews from Hunstanton, Heacham and Sandringham used main jets and hose reel jets to extinguish the flames, which lasted around an hour.

The fire left the ground floor flat severely damaged.

Three ambulances also attended the scene with a woman taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn for further treatment.

Two other separate incidents were also reported at the same address in Old Hunstanton Road earlier in the night.

Earlier in the evening a neighbour said he saw smoke coming from a recycling bin at the property just before 11am, which firefighters arrived to extinguish.

Later, a bed headboard leant against a wall to enable the woman's cat to get in and out of a window was set alight before fire crews again attended.

"It was hell's delight out there with all the flashing lights," the neighbour said. "They'd got the door open, they were squirting water in."

Two men, both aged in their 20s, have been arrested on suspicion of arson and taken to King's Lynn police station for further questioning where they remain.

Forensic officers and a fire investigation team were at the house this morning as they made further inquiries into the suspected arson.
