A quarter of the sales of one of East Anglia’s favourite ales are now for its low alcohol alternative, according to a local brewery.

Adnams said that sales of its Ghost Ship 0.5pc now accounts for 26pc of sales of the ale, making it the second-best selling beer in its entire range.

The Southwold-based brewery saw demand for its low alcohol beer soar in 2023, with sales rising by 25pc from June to December.

Its sales are now second only to the original version of the ale.

Fergus Fitzgerald, head of production at Adnams said: 'It seemed like a big leap in 2018 to invest in the technology to be able to brew a 0.5pc version of our best-selling beer, but we wanted to make sure we captured the flavours as closely as we could.

“It's now attracting customers who don't really know the original beer it was based on, and I think the new can format will help it broaden its appeal even further.”
